The Sacramento Gay Men’s Chorus celebrates the beginning of its fourth decade and invites you to come along and Seize the Day! SGMC’s exciting new concert explores the feelings we all experience when facing change and growth. The show evolves through an eclectic mix of music from pop and global songs to classical and modern choral music presented through the unique artistry and entertainment of SGMC.
More than ever before, Seize the Day presents SGMC’s powerful musicianship and true strength as entertainers. This concert’s program includes the eerily haunting Past Life Melodies, which features harmonic overtone singing and aboriginal chants, as well as the powerful and driving O Fortuna from Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana. SGMC’s voices deliver inspiring harmonies in the touching Homeward Bound by Marta Keen Thompson and a special arrangement of Neil Diamond’s Soolaimon arranged by SGMC’s own Paul Boisvert. Known for playful choral versions of pop songs, SGMC will deliver a beautiful version of Coldplay’s Fix You performed by Boy Howdy, SGMC’s small ensemble, as well as OMI’s Cheerleader, Taylor Swift’s Mean, Journey’s Don’t Stop Believin’, Disney’s Circle of Life and, of course, Seize the Day from Disney’s Newsies!
Staged in the grandeur of The Crest Theatre, with dazzling lighting and poignant storytelling, the concert promises to inspire and energize audiences to take note, take a stand and Seize the Day! The show will run two nights only on May 20 and 21, 2016, with an 8:00 curtain.
This year’s concert experience is enhanced by SGMC’s partnership with Empress Tavern and Chef Michael Thiemann to offer SGMC fans a true night out on the town! The Sacramento Gay Men’s Chorus was founded in 1984 as a singing group that aimed to foster a sense of community and provide support for gays and lesbians in the Sacramento area. Over the past 30 years, through musical performance and outreach programs, the chorus has grown to become an integral part of the Sacramento music community, as well as a voice for the gay and lesbian community in the greater Sacramento area.
